The Young Fathers Project offers all young fathers (14-25 yrs) one to one support on issues like coping with being a dad, benefits, housing, education and training, services for parents and support for those young fathers who are having difficulty getting access to their children.

The Young Fathers Project also offers a smaller range of programmes to the respective partners/ex-partners of the enrolled young fathers. These include child protection training, peer education training etc...

Areas Covered by the Service

  • Derry City Council Area
  • Limavady Council Area
  • Strabane District Council Area

Project Working Model

The 'da' Young Fathers Project will, as far as possible be tailored to the needs of individual fathers and will consider issues related to being a young man as well as a parent. The model for working with young fathers will include:

  • Energetic Outreach work.
  • Semi-structured group work.
  • One to one consultation.
  • Peer Support.
  • Drop-in support.
  • Sign Posting and further referrals.

The amount of time each young father spends in the programme is mutually agreed at the start of the programme. The service is completely free and open to all young fathers no matter what race or religion.
